Lets have a basic look at the different functions of the left and right Brain hemispheres. Neuroscientists have learned that the two hemispheres of the brain perform differently when they are connected to one another than when they are surgically separated. when normally connected the two hemispheres complement and enhance one another’s abilities. When surgically separated, the two hemispheres function as two independent brains with unique personalities, Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. The world of science supports the idea that the relationship between the two cerebral hemispheres is more appropriately viewed as two complementary halves of a whole rather than as two individual identities. The two hemispheres process information in different ways, which increases our brain’s capacity to experience our world.
The right hemisphere see things in the moment, right here, right now, what things feel like, smell like and taste like. The right mind is kinesthetic, no time exits other than the present moment, it thinks intuitively. There are no rules or regulations the right hemisphere is imaginative, creative and artistic with no inhibitions or judgment. It see’s the big picture and that everything and everyone is connected and equal.
The left hemisphere is the information processor it looks at everything in detail upon detail and more detail. It organizes details in a linear methodical fashion, 1,2,3—A,B,C— socks before shoes. The left side grasps the concept of time and divides time into the past, and future it can arrange patterns and work out puzzles it has the power of deduction and reasoning. It is the language center and uses words to define and communicate about everything, it is the fact checker it tells stories, it is the academic. The left side constantly specks, it never shuts up, it raves on and on never resting. The left side is the ego center it see’s itself as separate from others and a solid mass, it recognizes that I am.
The whole world of education, medicine, science, business and politics are controlled predominantly by left brain dominated people. Imagine for a moment how different our world would be if right brain consciousness was to predominately shape our worldly experience. It is clear that both brain hemispheres play uniquely important functions and that healthy communication and balance between the two hemispheres are vital for a happy, rewarding and peaceful life experience. It is also important to realize from a neurological prospective that when you are feeling strong emotions of self- doubt, low self-esteem, disconnectedness and loneliness, anger and the list could go on, you are trapped in the web of your left brain the story, story, story the endless blah, blah, blah.
When one meditates, listens to beautiful music or has a cathartic emotional release one moves away from parts of the left brain and moves more into the right brain where peace, energetic expansion and connectedness can be experienced. I don’t know about you guys, but I would rather the reality of my right mind to guide my life.
